. דומה לכוכית הגדות, אך נבדלת ממנה בסנטרה, גרונה וחזה החומים וללא פס חזה ברור
. שונה מסנונית הסלעים בעלת הכתמים הלבנים בזנבה אותם היא חסרה
. בית גידולה נופים גלויים בקרבת מים מתוקים, נמנעת מהרים ומקרבה לערים
. מקננת במושבות של חורים הכרויים בסוללות עפר
. בארץ אקראית נדירה ביותר, תועדה באילת
. נזכרת במסכת שבת ע"ז ב' , משערים שעגור במקרא מכוון לסנונית

Subspecies and Distribution.
R. p. mauritanica N-W Morocco.
R. p. minor Eritrea and sudan W to Senegal, N along Nile to Wadi Halfa.
R. p. paludicola Southern Africa.

Descriptive notes.
12 c, 12-14 g, wingspan 26-27 c. Smallest hirundine of west Palearctic with character and behaviour of Sand Martin, but rather more compact form.
Both upperparts and underparts duller than Sand Martin, contrasting less and no chest-band. Sexes similar, no seasonal variation.
Habitat.
Low latitudes near southern limits of west Palearctic. Consequently tolerates much warmer climates, but exposed to oceanic influences in Moroccan breeding area which reaches up to Mediterranean climatic zone.
No significant differences in habitat from Sand Martin.
Food and Feeding.
No much informatiopn known from west Palearctic, elsewhere, diet consists of small flying insects.
Takes prey in flight, often over water, often breaks surface in dipping to catch low-flying insects.
Breeding.
No much informatiopn known from west Palearctic, elsewhere, diet consists of small flying insects.

Movements.
Morocco population sedentary, breeding durin winter. in East and South Africa, at least partially migratory though such movements not properly understood. In Sudan, apparently moves S after breeding in north of county.
Status and Conservation.
Not globally threatened. Extension of breeding range in Morocco.
Israel.
In Israel subspecies R. p. chinensis. Straggler, ringed and photographed in Eilat on 1985.
