Subspecies and Distribution.
T. n. eunomus central Siberia, from Pur, Taz, and lower Yenisey rivers E to Kamcatka.

Descriptive notes.
23 cm, 77 g, wingspan 36-39 cm. Medium-sized, robust thrush, with rather stout bill and body. Diagnostic combination of broad pale supercilium and much rufous or chestnut under and on wings and on rump. Northern race spotted and barred black below, southern race spotted rufous. Sexes closely similar, some seasonal variation.
Habitat.
Breeds in higher latitudes of east Palerctic, mainly in lowlands from fringe of tundra through taiga and wooded steppe, in riverain woods of willow and poplar, with dense tall bushy undergrowth, also in birch and alder and more rarely in larch along terraces and low scrub. Occurs in thinly wooded regions and on outskirts of forest.

Movements.
Migratory. North Siberian race, migrates through Kuril Is, Sakhalin, Hokkaido, Korea, Mnchuria, and Mongolia to winter in southern Japan, Taiwan, S China, N-W Thailand, N Burma, Assam, and occasionally Nepal and Pakistan.
Spring passage of nominate starts mid Mar in far-eastern USSR. Passage of nominate noted as continuing through Apr on Lefu river, with birds arriving on breeding grounds from early to late May.

Not globally threatened.
