Descriptive notes.

30 cm, 190 gr, wingspan 69 cm. Larger than P. assimilis with longer tail more pointed wings, larger bill and pink legs, more brownish on underwing and less white on face. Juvenil as adult. Habitat. Marine, normally in offshore waters, but also pelagic and near land in vicinity of colonies, gathers in area of upwelling off SE Arbia. Breeds on oceanic islands, coral atolls and rocky offshore islets. Food and Feeding Mainly fish, squids and crustaceans. Feeds mainly by pursuit plunging, pursuit diving and surface seizing. Breeding. Colonial breeding, during local summer. Nests in burrows or rock crevices or among boulders. 1 egg, incubation 50 days. Chicks have variable grey down, fledging 70 days. Sexual maturity at 8 years.. Movements. Little known. Adults thought to be largely sedentary, immatures pronanly more dispersive. Vegrant to Canada, Australia and S Africa. Status and Conservation. Not globally threatened. Widespread and locally anundant. Israel. In Israel accidental visitor. subspecies in Israel P. l. persicus.
