:עבראש ירוק ברווז צולל הניכר בראשו דמוי המשולש, בצוiארו הלבן , בפסי כנפיו . הלבנים והרחבים ובעיניו הצהובות . ראש הזכר שחור עם ברק ירוק, וכתם לבן מבהיק בין המקור לעין . לנקבות והמתבגרים ראש מחודד פחות, צבעם כעין השוקולד וחסרי הכתם . מתרומם מהמים בהמראה תלולה וכנפיו משמיעות צליל רם בשעת מעופו בית גידולו מקווי מים מתוקים ביערות, בעיקר של עצי מחט. מקנן בקינים . ישנים של נקרים או בכל חור אחר בעצים. חורף גם בחופי ים . בארץ מזדמן נדיר ביותר ... רבא איקלע לבי ריש גלותא וטפלו ליה בר אווזא ... פסחים עד, ע"ב | ||||||||||

Descriptive notes.
40-50 cm, 800-1000 g. Male has small and round white spot on cheek, green gloss on head and eclipse plumage. Female has white neck and different pattern of secondary coverts. Juvenile resembles female, but darker on upperwing-coverts and brown iris. Subspecies americana separated by small differenin size. Habitat. Breeds on small freshwater bodies: lakes, pools, bogs, rivers surrounded by coniferous forest. In winters mostly on coastal lagoons, estuaries and inshore marine waters. Food and Feeding Mostly marine invertebrates, molluscs, crustaceans also fish. In fresh water, insects also a little plant material.. Feeds by diving, occasionally also dabbles on surface. Breeding. Apr-May, in single pairs . Nest with only down added, in tree-hollws. 8 -11 eggs, incubation 29 days. Chicks have blackish down above, whith below. Sexual maturity at 2 years. Movements. Migratory. winters at sea in N of range, or S to Florida, Mediterranean basin, S USSR and E China. Present all year in some areas of N W Europe. Status and Conservation. Not globally threatened. North American spring population exceeds 1,000,000 birds. Israel. In Israel the subspecies B. c. clangula Occasional and irregular winter visiter. |
